Independent Age

Independent Age is a unique and growing charity: a support community for thousands of older people across the UK and the Republic of Ireland. It offers a 'helping hand from a trusted friend', tackling older people's poverty and loneliness by offering information, advice and friendship.

It's volunteers visit nearly 5,000 older people across the UK and Republic of Ireland, bring friendship, conversation and sometimes practical help.

But It cannot help all the older people who need our support and we urgently need more volunteers in Somerset.

Independent Age is currently looking for people who would be interested in becoming Volunteer Visitors.  This role involves, perhaps dropping by for a coffee and chat, checking that someone is alright or arranging a trip to the local shops.  Some people need more support others less so.  As a Volunteer Visitor, you’d be matched with an older person living near you and could fit your visits around other commitments and responsibilities.

All new volunteers can expect to receive a full CRB check along with an extensive induction before they start their role.  In addition, you will receive full training and get the full backing of one of the  area network and volunteer managers, and from the expert advisers in the  national care services team.

So, if you feel that you could become a volunteer with Independent Age please contact the South West Area Manager, Gloria Percival on 01823 481353 or email
