County Hall appears to be going ahead with the merger of two Bridgwater schools despite dropping similar plans in Yeovil.

Plans for a new school in Bridgwater are going on display depite government funding being withdrawn.

The merger of Haygrove and Penrose schools was dropped when the coalition government scrapped the Schools for the Future programme.

Somerset County Council has decided to carry on with the planning application though as it's already spent £250,000 on it.

Last week county hall announced it was scrapping the merger of three primary schools in Yeovil because of spending cuts.
