A Yeovil man's been found guilty of kidnapping his son and taking him to the US.

The Yeovil man - charged with abducting his son and fleeing to the US - has been found guilty.

The jury returned its verdict on Wednesday morning.

The 43 year-old, who can't be named to protect the boy's identity, took the 13 year-old to the US in October 2008 without the consent of his mother.

They went to Philadelphia where they lived with his new wife but a court in the US sent them back to Britain at the request of UK authorities.

Taunton Crown Court has told Midwest Radio he refused to come out of his cell for the verdict and so it was read out in his absence.

He was also found guilty of making a false statement to get his son a passport and will be sentenced for both offences at a later date.
