Bob and Lucilla Barker have allowed their conifer trees to grow to a massive 40ft blocking any natural light to their home.

For the last 20 years they have grown freely & neighbours call it an eyesore - the last time they pruned them was to cut a hole thru the trees so they could reach front door!

Safety announcement with a difference!

Lady Gaga and Katy Perry's music have featured in an airline safety demonstration with a difference.

During a demonstration of how to use seat belts and life jackets, cabin crew on-board a Cebu Pacific Airlines flight danced to California Gurls and Just Dance. The performance was filmed by a passenger who posted the clip on YouTube.

Spokesperson said we have always been known as a fun airline, we wanted to get the message across to our customers that flight safety doesn't have to be boring."This was an experiment that we hope to repeat and also a chance to showcase the talent of some of our cabin crew staff."

Gillingham & Shaftesbury Young Farmers

Charlotte writes to tell us more about the young farmers ....

The young farmers consist of around 25 members with a committed team of leaders and advisory members to give us that bit of guidance when it is needed. Club membership ranges from 10 to 26 and we are part of Dorset Federation of Young Farmers Clubs and the national federation of young farmers clubs. We offer a varied weekly programme covering sports, arts, farm tours, talks and social events. We host an annual ball and can tell you that there’s more to being a young farmer than getting drunk on cider and singing the Wurzels!

As a registered charity we need to raise money for the club in order to keep it going. Of course there are member levies but all these do is cover the insurance! As a result, especially in these difficult economic times, we find ourselves delving deeper and deeper into the pot for bigger, brighter and better fundraising ideas. Including our current one; a naked calendar!

Surprisingly many of our members didn’t need to be asked twice. We wanted to keep it to over 18 models and very tasteful and we hope that we have achieved this as all the photo shoots have now been done. The costs of the calendar are being met by our sponsors who have all been very generous with their money and time. The photography costs are minimal as they have all been taken by our very own photography student, Vicky Baxter. They are being printed locally too.

So now we are faced with the difficult task of advertising the calendar. We have a promotional front page just ready to go to print to be put up at the Young Farmers tent at the Gillingham and Shaftesbury Show on the 18th. We also have some very snazzy blue t-shirts which we hope are going to get some attention next week!

If you are attending the show we would love you to drop by and have a look at our shirts and the front cover shot. You never know you may even get to meet some of the models in real life!

Finally I would just like to say we are taking pre-orders now!! Phone/text on 07912983839 or 07875932703 or click here to order your calendar!

Ilminster Arts Centre

Please can you help us find some new volunteers!

Ilminster Arts Centre (a registered charity which receives no public funding towards its running costs) has become a victim of its own success.

With double the number of exhibitions and performances and a lively programme of workshops and events our current dedicated band of over 40 volunteers is being over-stretched.

We need people with spare time to help run this vibrant community arts centre. If you are interested in being a steward, assisting with administration, or helping in the kitchen and cafe please get in touch with Steph Snowdon on 01460 55783, email her at info@themeetinghouse.org.uk or just call in to the Arts Centre in East Street to find out more.
